The Edutopia Poll

What happens in class doesn't always stay in class, thanks to the rising popularity of camera phones that can also record digital video clips. At an Arizona high school, students secretly taped their teacher performing a spirited cheerleading routine in front of the class and posted the video online. Displeased with the teacher's conduct, the school district put her on administrative leave, and she later resigned.

Elsewhere, teachers have found video clips of their own classroom performances, lessons, and even angry outbursts posted on sites such as YouTube and MySpace for the world to see. Though these clips are undoubtedly humiliating, there's little anyone can do to remove them from these Web sites. Do you trust your students to respect your privacy, or might you become the next unwitting Internet star? We want to know!

Are you concerned about students taping you in class and then posting the videos online?

Yes. Cell phones are ubiquitous in my class, so I can imagine my students doing this kind of thing.

Maybe. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to me.

No. There is no way that my students would record me.

No, but for a different reason

I stated "no" that I'm not worried, but not because I don't think my students won't video tape me. I said no because I conduct myself in a way that I wouldn't be doing anything that I should be embarassed about. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I sometimes say goofy things to get the students' attention. And sometimes I do something just down right stupid. But I always do my job, I rarely lose my temper and I respect all of my students.

Same here

I totally agree with you. I was going to skip voting on this one until I scrolled down and saw your response. I'll go you one further and add that what you would see is me sometimes making a mistake, owning up to it, letting the students know that its ok to make a mistake, and move on with the lesson.
