Making media mean something

Hi there
What a wonderful clip. I have worked in community media production and 'informal' education in rural Britain since 1997 and many of the ideas that Edutopia advocate and celebrate have proved so enriching in that time. It is really a thrill to see the concept of using media, and hence technology, to get to the human heart of the matter is really terrific. Does anyone out there use film viewing to engage students with issues of citizenship and how to think about society at large ? It's an area I am especially interested in.
Teaching and the spirit of playfulness will always work as great allies I think.

An excellent message that every teacher needs to share with every student. Not every one can be a George Lucas, but everyone should have to opportunity to try.

I'm very impressed wtih Mr. Lucas and his desire to impact education of kids. I'd love to be more involved with his foundation and help get his message out. As Director of High Schools in a large school district (69,000 students), I'd love to partner with the foundation and use technology to enhance learning.

Education in today's Technology

I totally agree with George Lucas on that technology can and will teach children and any age group things that could have never been taught 70 or more years ago. In my "Homepage" provided, this blog shows that SecondLife has a very big place in this type of education. I have provide several videos, that I am sure I will be adding in time, that education can be enhanced in ways never could have been in the old style Internet.

Second Life allows students to be in different places and enter act in real time. SecondLife is just as real as life itself. When the create their avatars to use in SecondLife, they can be anything (male, female, animal, robot, Darth Vadar, etc.) I have found a Darth Vadar avatar at "Freebie Planet Island" in SecondLife.

This 3-D virtual reality is so big that many companies are into it, like Cisco, IBM, Intel, Dell, Text 100, Career Builder, to name a few. The limit to knowledge should be in the power of the imagination. For me, I have learned more outside of the classroom both K-12 and my post-secondary education at a technical school I have graduated from. As Captain Planet said, "The power is your!"
